Charity Tandem Skydive with UK Youth

UK Youth supports young people to learn and succeed outside of the classroom. For over 100 years we have been enabling young people from all backgrounds to realise their potential. Today, through a national network of youth associations, we offer 790,000 7-25 yearolds access to a wide range of vital learning programmes. Our work is all about supporting young people to gain life skills and accredited awards that build confidence, resilience and make them more employable. Our approach works with all young people but has proven particularly effective for those not thriving in mainstream education.

Our programmes enable young people to develop the resilience, skills and competences necessary to make successful transitions to adulthood and get accredited for their achievements. Our youth work programmes focus on specific issues including sex and relationships education, homelessness and drugs education.

UK Youth has been particularly successful in attracting major funding for national projects that are piloted locally by our network members, with support from national staff. There are over 7250 youth clubs in our network. UK Youth’s unique local connection has made it an ideal agency for testing out innovative approaches at national level. Many of our national projects involve excluded young people and empower them to have a voice, campaign for change nationally and locally and take positive action in their communities. Many of the young people who have taken part in our programmes have become campaigners in their local communities, challenging negative stereotypes of young people and challenging injustice.

UK Youth’s projects create opportunities for young people to be actively involved in the decision making process. Many of its biggest national projects are youth-led, and young people sit on our Trustee Board. UK Youth Voice ensures that we put young people at the centre of everything we do. This steering group of 16-25 year olds plays a major role in governing the charity and shaping our programmes.
